"My husband and I
are adventure travelers. We have traveled the world looking for adventure
and seeking out travel destinations that are unique and exciting. We are
not interested in the “average tour”. We hunt for the nature’s hidden
treasures.
We have just returned from a full month trip to Russia. We began our journey
by flying to the peninsula of Kamchatka from Alaska, only a 4 hour flight.
We spent 10 days in Kamchatka, and then flew to Vladivostok to board the
Trans Siberian to Moscow. We toured Siberia from Vladivostok to Moscow
for almost 3 weeks, spending time in many Siberian cities as well as St.Petersburg
and Moscow. Eventhough we spent so much time on the mainland of Russia,
we found Kamchatka the most impressive place of our Russian experience.
Of the entire trip, Kamchatka remained the highlight and the part of Russia
that we wish to return to. In fact, we want to bring others with us when
we return. We had both been looking forward to coming to Kamchatka for
years. Because Kamchatka has an amazing number of active volcanoes and
I am a geologist, specifically a volcanologist, I have been dreaming of
climbing these sleeping mountains for the last 20 years. I survived, barely,
the eruption of Mt.St.Helens in Washington in 1980. My husband, a doctor,
has been an historian and student of the Russian language for most of
his life. So he was very eager to visit Russia.
As we approached Kamchatka, we were blessed by a clear blue sky and could
see the majesty of the snow covered peaks of the volcanoes and the unbelievable
beauty of the raw wilderness. (I truly felt like a kid in a candy store.)
This land is one of the last real wildernesses left on earth. It has been
untouched and remains the way nature intended. Salmon jump out of the
streams in countless numbers, bears are so unspoiled by human interaction,
that they do not attack, volcanoes erupt, berries can be picked and eaten,
and the only sounds are those of nature. The remoteness of the land provides
an allure for the true adventurer and outdoor enthusiast. This is a place
where the beauty of an unspoiled land can be enjoyed. It is like stepping
back to a time where nature rather then man ruled.
Our experience in Kamchatka was a combination of true wilderness adventure
and incredible person to person interaction. The people of Kamchatka are
warm in heart and enthusiastic about their land, eager to show others
the beauty of this raw and beautiful wilderness. The people and their
land gave us an incredible and wonderfully unique experience. We will
return."
